How can yoga help you stay fit despite binge eating?

Binge eating is one of the most common problems people face while struggling to lose unwanted fat. So, how do you control the urge to binge? The answer is self-control/willpower/persistence. But, you need to train your mind to control your urges. And yoga is an amazing way to do that.

Along with bringing a host of benefits to the body through a regular practice of yoga such as flexibility, strength, calorie burn, stamina, energy etc. Yoga also benefits the mind by bringing calmness, regulating the breath and boosting energy. But that’s not it, a regular yoga practice like ‘yoga for fat loss’ also allows your mind and body to develop a sense of discipline which reflects in your other activities over a period of time. The habit of discipline develops over a period of time. You’ll observe yourself eating mindfully, maintaining a sleep cycle, being active etc.

Asanas are helpful if you are a binge eater. Here in this blog, we would follow a ‘yoga for fat loss’ flow as binge eating tends to build up unwanted stubborn fat in the body. This flow not only works on your body but also helps you become a more mindful eater than a binge eater.

Yoga for fat loss flow:

1. Child’s Pose (Balasana):

The first pose for yoga for fat loss is child’s pose. In this resting pose sit back on your heels with the knees apart and your palms on the thighs. Lower your torso toward the thighs while the arms are stretched overhead and your forehead and palms to rest on the floor.

Child’s Pose (Balasana)

This pose gently compresses your abdomen while enhancing the circulation of lymph. This is your body's main method for removing metabolic waste products. When you’re feeling overstuffed, resting in this pose is incredibly calming and soothing.

2. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana):

The next very simple and effective pose in yoga for fat loss flow is the cobra pose. It is a back-bending pose that warms and strengthens the spine while opening the chest. While lifting the chest upward slowly, arch the back gently, keeping the shoulders down the back away from the ears and the neck. Hold this pose for 5 to 10 counts.

Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

Breathing deeply while in this posture gently massages your internal organs, which will help move food contents through your system. It improves your blood circulation and reduces fatigue and stress.

This pose will help you evacuate your belly and also it gently compresses your liver, which helps along in the cleansing process. Adding a twist to each side in the same pose gives the feeling that you’re squeezing out your kidneys for purification.

4. Kapalbhati Kriya:

Yoga for fat loss does not only include intense body workout but also helps you build self-control to curb the urge of binge eating. Sit in any meditative posture. Close your eyes and relax. Inhale deep from both nostrils, expand the chest with air. Exhale the breath forcefully with contractions of the abdominal muscles and relax. Continue the same active exhalation and passive inhalation as per your comfort.

Yogic breathing

Kapalabhati is a yogic breathing technique that cleanses, detoxifies and invigorates your mind and body. This kriya is known to remove toxins and other unwanted waste materials from your body. The best time to practice this yogic kriya is on an empty stomach and mostly early in the morning.

Yoga if practised regularly becomes a lifestyle and replaces your old destructive habits with new helpful ones instead.
